In March 2002, Change was playing kickball at school when he fell and lost consciousness. The injury appeared to involve head trauma severe enough to potentially cause brain hemorrhage or fatal brain swelling. He was unconscious on the sports field with classmates gathered around attempting to revive him.
After falling, he experienced moving at lightning speed through a dark tunnel. He watched the smiling faces of his classmates rotating one after another like pieces of shattered mirrors - he still clearly remembers three specific faces. His body was in pain and he had trouble breathing. The tunnel experience continued until he reached a bright light at the end. The light became brighter as all the pictures disappeared, and he moved toward it at high speed. Once he entered the light, he found himself floating in a peaceful state in a black universe. He was formless, like water evaporating and dispersing slowly. The experience was incredibly relaxing, peaceful, and comfortable. Suddenly, he experienced a dimensional shift and his soul was floating above the school sports field. From above, he watched his body lying on the grass surrounded by classmates. He specifically observed one classmate trying to resuscitate him by pinching his philtrum (the area above the mouth). When he regained consciousness, he had complete amnesia - he couldn't recognize people around him or remember where the school restroom was. His memories gradually returned over the next two hours. The experience remains crystal clear to him years later. He reports occasionally remembering things that later happen in the future as an after-effect.
