In November 2001, Ahly was involved in a severe car accident while intoxicated. He collided with a bridge protective wall at high speed. The trauma was so severe that doctors said he could die from a fat embolism. His oxygen levels dropped into the 60s, indicating brain death level hypoxia.
During the accident, everything turned black and he found himself in a beautiful place surrounded by stars. He experienced no pain, hunger, or anxiety - only peace and comfort. He was surrounded by billions and billions of stars, and when he looked at himself, he was a star too. He could have stayed in that peaceful state forever. Then he heard a soft voice telling him, "It is not your time yet." He felt as if he had been thrown from a distance back into his body. He awoke on a gurney in terrible pain and covered in blood. The medical team struggled to stabilize him, and he underwent multiple major surgeries. During one surgery, he had an anesthetic crisis and was dying again. He saw an intense white light and stopped fighting to breathe, wanting to return to the beautiful place full of stars, but the doctors saved him. This happened again in another surgery. After recovery, he experienced lasting effects including seeing ghosts, lights, and shadows. He heard voices and had extra-sensory experiences. He reports knowing that human life is more complex than we understand and has a spiritual component. He also had a childhood NDE at age 7 from a streptococcus infection where angels took him to heaven and he was sent back down a rainbow.
