Four-year-old Charlene and her five-year-old sister were playing in a barn when they became trapped inside an old refrigerator. Their pet goat kept shutting the door on them, and eventually they could not open it despite kicking hard with their feet. As they ran out of oxygen, both children became quiet. Charlene felt like she was going to sleep and could no longer hear her sister.
As consciousness faded, Charlene saw a light like a candle flame. A lady with long brown hair and soft eyes appeared, putting her finger to her lips saying "Shhh child it will be alright." When Charlene began to cry, the woman told her "No, you must be still, your mommy is coming." The woman reassured her repeatedly, and Charlene recognized this as her grandmother through her smile and presence. Just as a voice said "You do not have anything to do here today," Charlene heard her mother and felt cool air as the door opened. The mother later revealed she had been bathing the baby when she realized she couldn't hear the girls. Her heart jumped and she heard a woman's voice say "Hurry." She ran to the barn, opened the fridge door, and found both children barely breathing, dark in color, and wet with sweat. She put them in cold water and watched over them until the father returned home. The refrigerator was removed that night. The experience had seemed to last only 2-3 minutes to Charlene, but her husband had been waiting outside for over 50 minutes during the medical crisis. --- Biblical Summary --- Biblical elements: The experience contains several elements consistent with biblical accounts including an otherworldly encounter with a protective being (possibly angelic or the deceased grandmother), supernatural knowledge (the being knew the mother was coming), and a sense of divine intervention in a life-threatening situation. The comforting presence and message of reassurance align with biblical descriptions of divine comfort. Unbiblical elements: None identified. The experience does not contain reincarnation, universal salvation, new age concepts, or other problematic elements. The grandmother figure could be interpreted as either a deceased loved one (permitted in some biblical accounts) or an angel taking familiar form.
