Rhonda had two out-of-body experiences. The first occurred around age 5 during a high fever from flu, where she found herself on the ceiling looking down at herself on the couch while her mother was on the phone with the doctor. The second and more significant experience happened at age 14 during surgery when she had an allergic reaction to medication that stopped her heart. She heard the flatline beep on the heart monitor and observed from above as medical staff frantically tried to restart her heart. She was not in pain and heard them yelling for her not to leave, which seemed strange to her. The commotion lasted only moments from her perspective. She later learned she had an allergic reaction to one of the medications. The doctor was amazed at her recovery, which took half the expected time. She was so energetic in the ICU that they needed to sedate her. During both experiences, she felt complete calm while observing from outside her body. She could see everything happening with her body and around it.
