A woman six weeks pregnant with twins experienced a life-threatening ectopic pregnancy rupture. One embryo was in the uterus, the other in the fallopian tube. She began projectile vomiting with severe abdominal pain and was rushed to the hospital where she aspirated on vomit. While in the OB/GYN emergency room, her condition worsened and a code team was called. The last thing she remembered was the doctor asking "Are you going?" before she lost all physical sensation, including the chronic bone and nerve pain she had lived with for nine years as a traumatic amputee. She felt weightless, floating, and free from all physical encumbrances. She found herself in a dark tunnel with a light at the end, moving toward it with increasing feelings of peace and love unlike anything she had experienced before. She knew she was close to death and felt completely accepting of it. However, when she thought of her husband and one-year-old son having to live without her, though believing they would ultimately be fine, she felt herself forcefully pulled back. She awoke to bright lights and shouting, feeling disappointed to return to unbearable pain. She was rushed to surgery for internal bleeding from the ruptured fallopian tube. The experience solidified her belief in the afterlife and God's loving presence, enabling her to later comfort dying relatives including her mother.
