In November 2019, James suffered a major heart attack and was on life support for 2 weeks, experiencing several cardiac incidents including stoppages. His NDE began without clear beginning - he found himself in total blackness with no thoughts, just observation. He saw three visions: his estranged father in a wheelchair at a nursing home wearing John Lennon glasses showing only void/blackness; a deceased friend appearing Moses-like saying "You are getting another chance"; and being in a void given a choice between peaceful right path or left path of broken glass (his life). Choosing family, he felt a physical jolt he instantly knew was God's touch, experiencing unity with all creation and the fabric of existence itself, seeing reality with a purple association. He followed his wife's voice back. Doctors expected him to die or be vegetative, but he recovered fully after quad bypass surgery. Remarkably, he learned his estranged father was indeed in a nursing home, unknown to him previously. The experience gave him certainty about the divine and shifted his values entirely toward love and family.
