On June 26, 1991, seven-year-old Gordon hit his head jumping into a pool and suffered a traumatic brain injury. His right side stopped working and he experienced burning inside while feeling ice cold outside. In the ambulance, he left his body and observed from above as paramedics worked on him while his grandmother held his hand. He experienced crystal clear thoughts, overwhelming love, kindness, and peace with heightened senses. He saw a light at the roof of the ambulance shining through him onto his body below. Time ceased to exist and he felt he could have stayed in that state eternally but chose to return for his grandmother. He awoke in the hospital unable to talk, walk, or think clearly initially but made a full recovery. The experience gave him unshakeable faith in the afterlife and led him to pursue Catholic Biblical Studies and priesthood. He states nothing can make him doubt the reality of the afterlife after this experience.
