On October 9, 2018, Travis had a STEMI heart attack while at a bed and breakfast. After vomiting and his wife calling for help, he was taken by ambulance then helicopter where he received CPR twice and was shocked with paddles. During the cardiac arrest, he experienced being in complete darkness with no boundaries except light shining from above onto his body. He saw himself from about 5 feet away, on his knees, watching paramedics work on his body in the helicopter. He kept yelling at himself to "LIVE! Just keep fighting!" repeatedly. Though he knew the helicopter had insufficient space for all the paramedics in the positions he observed, the scene felt real. He woke intubated in ICU and later experienced a second event at home where a hooded figure emerged from the ceiling light, crawled up his body, and vanished when his wife responded to his scream. He interprets the first as willing himself to live, the second as possibly not being meant to survive.
