Tomasz was shot in a criminal attack in 2000 and brought lifeless to the emergency room where CPR was administered. After losing awareness, he awoke on the operating table observing medical procedures being performed on his body. He felt warmth and light, realizing deceased relatives were present as other beings suspended above his body. He communicated with these relatives who gave him advice on returning to his body. The time in the light was carefree, painless and peaceful. The entire space above the operating room was filled with strange light and warmth, like a hall or corridor serving as a gate to another life. After a conversation that felt more like a flow of information with his relatives, he made the conscious decision to return. Later when he brought flowers to thank the hospital staff, he recognized the specific doctors and nurses who had saved him, confirming his observations. He states he is no longer afraid of death and considers it a positive memory, though he remains atheist.
