Steven had his second heart attack on December 20, 2012, in the emergency room. His heart stopped and was restarted with a defibrillator, then stopped again triggering an NDE. He found himself in a beautiful rolling meadow with plush green grass under a blue sky, feeling warm, peaceful and safe. On a knoll, he saw four extremely bright white buildings with strange symbols resembling Asian writing but unlike anything he had seen before. He knew he was supposed to go to the buildings and began walking toward them. The experience ended when his body was shocked again and he returned to awareness with a nurse yelling at him to open his eyes. Steven recovered well from the heart attack and the memory remains vivid seven years later. Unlike many NDErs, he did not find God or develop psychic abilities afterward, and his life continued normally.
