Drew was hit by a car going over 40mph while riding a moped on his birthday/Halloween. He bled out in the helicopter and underwent emergency clam-shell thoracotomy at the hospital. During his death, he walked through the flaps of a massive bright-white tent filled with light and happiness. Inside were all kinds of animals in harmony with humans, everyone appearing younger than 30 and jovial. He encountered his deceased grandfather in military fatigues, appearing young as he'd never seen him before. They talked for what seemed like hours, with Drew expressing fear about his legs and never walking again. His grandfather assured him his legs would be alright. When Drew heard his mother calling his name, he told his grandfather he had to go because he didn't want to upset her. His grandfather asked him to stay but Drew headed toward his mother's voice. He awoke from coma to find his mother whispering his name. The experience gave him certainty about the afterlife and reduced his fear of death.
