At age 9, Chris experimented with a self-induced unconsciousness technique at school that stopped blood flow to his brain. He was unconscious for 1-2 minutes. During this time, he found himself in a formless realm of light and color, experiencing complete peace, love, and unity. He had no body but was definitely himself, surrounded by and part of soft, brilliant light. In this place, his earthly life didn't exist and he had no thoughts of family or school. When being pulled back, he felt a sucking sensation and remembered his earthly life with reluctance, thinking "oh no, not this again." He saw his imperfect life and family returning to his awareness. The experience was unlike dreams, nightmares, or later psychedelic experiences - it was an entirely different reality. He buried the memory for years but it profoundly affected his life path. Recently the memories returned strongly, convincing him of the reality of the experience and the existence of something beyond physical life.
