On May 15, 2001, while working from an eight-foot ladder, Caan lost his balance and fell backward through a T-bar ceiling, landing head-first on concrete. He heard bones in his neck popping upon impact and experienced a momentary separation of mind and body. During this experience, he traveled through a black and white tunnel at high speed, similar to the show "Sliders" but in monochrome. He sensed he was not alone and received telepathic messages about life being temporary, that earthly relationships are just roles to play, and that success is linked to how well one plays their role. He was shown a life review since age two, seeing both mistakes and good deeds, learning about karmic law and consequences. He arrived at a place with beautiful light where beings in white and yellow tunics gathered in a reception hall. His grandfather Abraham appeared to say goodbye one last time, telling him there were other tasks waiting. Caan returned through shining colored lights (green, yellow, blue) giving him great peace. A co-worker shook him back to consciousness, and he was upset about being reconnected to his body. The experience occurred during the Muslim observance of Day of Adoration.
