Eighteen-year-old Lola experienced an NDE during a severe flu illness while taking mock exams. She was likely severely dehydrated when she lost consciousness at home. Upon falling, she hit her head on the edge of a bathtub and scratched her arm. Her father found her unconscious and shook her to revive her, eventually succeeding in bringing her back to consciousness.
During her unconscious state, Lola lost all sense of her physical body and experienced time distortion where everything seemed both infinitely long and extremely fast simultaneously. She had no religious convictions or knowledge of NDEs at the time. Her experience began with seeing the good moments of her life scrolling past at high speed in a rapid life review. She then entered a black tunnel that transformed into many colors before emerging into brilliant light. The light was described as white and yellow, brilliant yet soft and not burning like the sun. In the light, Lola encountered her deceased grandmother who appeared neither old nor young but radiating light and happiness. Her grandmother was surrounded by a halo of light that prevented seeing what was behind her. They communicated, with her grandmother telling her firmly to go back because it wasn't her time and she still had things to do. Throughout the experience, Lola felt various emotions progressing from panic to serenity, curiosity, and incredible joy. When she awakened, she felt strong pain from hitting her head and saw her father who had been shaking her. Initially, she dismissed the experience as hallucinations but later came to believe it was definitely real. The experience gave her insights that life should be lived serenely without excessive questioning, trusting that what needs to happen will unfold naturally.
