Alfred attempted suicide using his wife's pain medications after her death from cancer left him exhausted and without purpose. After overdosing, he was ejected from his body and floated above it, marveling at how perception through consciousness was immediate compared to slow mental processing. He traveled at incredible speed through different worlds, perceiving alternating colors and light intensities while floating half a meter above ground. He arrived at a pitch-dark place by a lake shore, surrounded by dull, self-absorbed beings. In the distance, he saw a boat with a man holding a lantern - immediately recognizing Jesus as the only source of light. Initially feeling lethargic toward Jesus, Alfred was transformed when Jesus embraced him, becoming surrounded in brightness as all worries fell away, bathed in bliss and love. Jesus communicated telepathically, making two predictions: that Alfred would find his spiritual master and achieve self-fulfillment. Alfred was in a coma for three days before awakening in a psychiatric ward. Within a week of returning home, a colleague offered him a book by Ramana Maharshi, fulfilling the first prediction. This book became his life compass, and twenty years later the second prediction came true with his spiritual realization. Alfred reflects that suicide would have been terrible, preventing him from seeing how his life would blossom in ways he never imagined.
