Barbara experienced clinical death from pneumonia in 1970, pronounced dead for three minutes at approximately 1:30-2:00 AM. She left her body and floated to the hospital ceiling, looking down at her pale form and realizing how ill she was. She moved toward a very bright but non-blinding light and saw a nurse rush in screaming for doctors in French - though Barbara didn't speak French, she understood everything being said. She began hysterically crying and begging not to be sent back, wanting to go to the light. A gentle, warm, comforting voice "like warm honey being poured over me" spoke to her with a long list of reasons why she had to return, though she cannot remember the specific reasons as they seemed trivial at the time.
