Around 1950 in China, Lee Shi reported her nephew to agrarian reform officials for concealing weapons during the land revolution policy implementation. When the nephew discovered she was the whistleblower, he hunted her down and shot her in the stomach with a gun. She bled severely and passed out from the gunshot wound.
While unconscious, Lee Shi found herself in what she described as purgatory. She reached the edge of a bridge and could see houses on the other side that were extraordinarily beautiful - much more beautiful than any earthly dwellings she had known. The structures across the bridge appeared inviting and she wanted to cross over to explore them. Before she could approach the bridge to tour the beautiful realm, a guard stationed by the bridge stopped her from crossing. Two men then came over to her and spoke fiercely, telling her "It is not your time yet, go back!" Following this command, she immediately regained consciousness. After waking up, Lee Shi told everyone about her experience while passed out. This account was later shared by her grandnephew who preserved her testimony of the near-death experience. The brief but vivid encounter left a lasting impression on her and her family.
