Aubaud experienced a severe migraine leading to a ruptured aneurysm and coma in October 1991. Awakened by violent hiccups and nausea, she felt death approaching and peacefully rolled onto her side to wait. Cold penetrated her body, then everything toppled into nothingness. She became either a dot or the infinite, experiencing timelessness and feeling incredibly intelligent with understanding of life's meaning. She saw past life events mostly in black and white with red flashes, centered on love and her little sister whom she cared for after their parents' divorce. She felt wrapped in completeness and extraordinary love. During medical treatment, she heard the doctor say "ruptured aneurysm, in a coma" and experienced periods of blackness alternating with awareness. She suffered left-side paralysis and speech problems. The experience profoundly changed her perception of humanity and led to years of struggling to recapture that feeling of wholeness through various means. She became atheist but believes in humanity's infinite goodness.
