At age 6, Evelyn was critically ill with a virus causing high fever and seizures. Her mother called a doctor who made a house call and found her in a life-threatening condition. The doctor carried her to the bathroom and filled the tub with cold water and ice to reduce her fever while she was seizing. During this medical emergency, Evelyn left her body and floated at ceiling level, observing the doctor and mother working on her body. She witnessed specific details including being carried to the bathroom, the tub being filled with water and ice being placed around her body. She then entered another realm filled with light where she met a young woman in a flowing whitish-blue gown who emanated complete love and kindness. The being communicated telepathically that it wasn't her time and she had to return, saying "You will see my face among the Grieved" and showing her a vision of herself among people in shock with rubble everywhere. Evelyn strongly resisted returning but was sent back to her body. Upon recovery, she told her mother everything she had seen while out of body, and her mother confirmed all the details were accurate. The experience gave her lasting spiritual beliefs and removed her fear of death.
