Eight-year-old Elaine was floating in an innertube at the beach in 1967 when a wave knocked her off and she fell under the water. Unable to swim, she started thinking she would drown. Everything then became very peaceful and non-threatening. She experienced a life review seeing events from her short life passing through her brain, including specific memories like trips to her grandmother's house.
She found herself in darkness and saw a light at the end of what seemed like a tunnel. She felt herself being pulled toward the light and knew that once she reached it, she would have crossed over. She was never scared or afraid but was reassured that everything would be all right. As she got close to the light, a grid came down in front of her and stopped her from going any further. The grid resembled what she later recognized as looking like a circuit board. She woke up on the shore coughing up water with her mother yelling down the beach looking for her. She had drifted a ways down the shore and washed up on the beach with no one having saved or helped her. It was as if she was just washed up on the shore by itself. After the experience, she started having more vivid dreams including some that were prophetic. She had a dream about a politician being shot and paralyzed that she told her parents about the morning it happened. Later at age 17, she experienced cosmic consciousness feeling immersed in a pink cloud with her mind opening up, understanding everything with no fear of death, feeling the flow and relationality of everything, and tremendous feelings of love that made it impossible to hate anyone afterward.
