Carlos experienced an electrical shock on his fourteenth birthday in February 1969 while setting up a music band party in his house garden. His hand closed on an electrical wire connected to a speaker, and he fell onto the lawn unable to move. The current buzzed strongly through his entire body. His friends initially thought it was a joke and laughed while he knew he was about to die, feeling anguish for his parents who would soon find his corpse.
His anguish quickly transformed into feelings of peace, love, and powerful happiness with a sense of knowing where he was going. He knew the place they were sending him and stopped thinking about his parents or the world. Nothing mattered except the feeling of love and knowing he was returning home to his true life. On the six-foot wall dividing their property, he saw a brilliant golden egg of light expanding and creating a rotating tunnel. His sense of security and knowledge grew as everything became clear to him in all respects. A black figure wearing a cape or mantle appeared backlit in the tunnel, and Carlos knew this being had come for him. He felt happier than ever before in his entire life. Suddenly everything went out and he awoke in his father's arms being rushed into the house. He tried to tell his father about his euphoria and what happened but was hushed. He fainted again and woke in his room where his father asked what happened, but when he tried to explain what he saw, he couldn't remember the details. The experience left him with an unforgettable sense of peace and happiness that he had never felt before or since. Years later, he changed from Catholic to Muslim faith, deepening his religious practice in preparation for death. He gained knowledge that life is eternal, nothing is random, everything has a reason, and that love is alive with awareness. The experience initiated a lifelong spiritual search.
