Dan M experienced a myocardial infarction while caring for his mother-in-law, with a nurse present who called 911. Paramedics arrived quickly as they were driving nearby and found he had flatlined. They used a defibrillator three times to restart his heart, which kept stopping. During the episode, his body went into a grand mal seizure requiring multiple firefighters to hold him down. Despite the chaos of his physical body, Dan experienced profound calmness. He saw a brilliant and beautiful light drawing him toward it like a magnet, though he was unable to move closer to it despite trying. He likened the experience to a real-life diorama where everything existed but he couldn't reach it. The light realm felt vast with no people or visions of beings, yet it was the most beautiful experience of his life. Time seemed to stop completely, and he felt only joy, exhilaration, and incredible peace with no fear. He was conscious in the ICU 1-2 days later, with immediate recall of the NDE. The experience convinced him absolutely that something exists after this life, a conviction strengthened four years later when his wife died suddenly from an aneurysm. He reports enhanced perception of events, sometimes feeling that events follow his thoughts by hours or days. The memory remains as vivid and real as any current experience.
