Christine S was doing backflips in the school gym when she asked a friend with no gymnastics knowledge to spot her. She landed incorrectly and had the wind knocked out of her, leaving her unable to breathe. She and her friend went to the teacher for help. Suddenly, Christine found herself floating to the top of the gym's high ceiling, observing herself and the entire gym from above. She felt embarrassed seeing herself on the floor, thinking "What am I doing on the floor?" The experience included a sense of time slowing while floating upward, but when she realized her situation, she rushed back into her body at high speed. She immediately opened her eyes and jumped up, continuing with her day. The experience was brief but vivid, with clear visual perception from an elevated perspective. She heard nothing except her own thoughts during the OBE. While the medical severity is uncertain, the complete loss of breath and unconsciousness followed by an out-of-body experience suggests a potentially serious event. The experience left her with enhanced sensitivity to others' emotions and a strong connection to her mother's thoughts, though she maintained her Catholic faith without significant religious changes.
