Bob experienced severe heatstroke on August 10, 2018, his fourth episode and second within 30 days. After working in 100°F temperatures teaching roof cutting, he developed classic heatstroke symptoms including stopped sweating and severe headache. Despite receiving initial treatment and hydration at a brewery, he developed intense leg cramps and recognized he was in serious trouble. His brother drove him to the emergency room where he was immediately admitted. Bob lost all feeling in his legs and couldn't move, requiring wheelchair assistance.
In the emergency room, Bob experienced multiple near-death episodes over three hours. His hearing and eyesight became extremely acute, and he was completely aware of everything happening around him. He felt his life slipping away multiple times, telling his family he loved them and it was time to go. During these episodes, he experienced his soul rising from his body while the room and his physical body appeared to shrink below him. He saw many deceased friends and relatives looking at him and telling him it was okay. He vividly saw a tree-lined forest road with clouds clearing, with his deceased relatives and friends pointing the way. His family repeatedly begged him not to go, physically shaking and squeezing him to keep him present. This cycle of leaving and being pulled back occurred at least six times. During the most profound moment, Bob experienced complete peace and comfort, describing it as the most peaceful feeling of his life. He was unafraid of death and looking forward to eternal peace. His body convulsed several times before he closed his eyes in complete comfort. The medical team gave him three bags of IV fluids and performed neurological tests, initially suspecting stroke or aneurysm due to complete loss of body control. A CT scan came back normal. He could literally feel life flowing back into his body with the third bag of fluids, similar to a previous blood transfusion experience. Bob remained completely coherent throughout, correctly answering all orientation questions. He was conscious from 1pm when symptoms began until 8pm when doctors helped him recover. The experience convinced him there is definitely something more after death, and he now knows he will see his deceased family and friends again. He experienced no fear about death, only concern for leaving his children fatherless.
