On June 21, 1991, Theodor attempted suicide alongside his dying partner Rolf who had AIDS. After caring for Rolf at home for a year while himself having advanced HIV/AIDS, Theodor decided to die with his partner. He injected himself with Rolf's blood (100ml) hoping for an incompatibility reaction, then morphine and other drugs in large quantities. He suddenly hovered over his body seeing the scene from bird's-eye view - himself and Rolf lying in bed together. He saw his past life and current world events like a puppet theater - politicians, wars, factories, people with problems all seeming unimportant and funny. He was pulled through a tunnel toward bright, warm light. He recognized deceased people including his grandmother and friends who died from AIDS, all happy and wanting to hug him. An angel appeared identifying himself as Theodor's guardian angel, communicating without words that he was always there and asking why Theodor hadn't called for help more often. Standing before a large heavenly gate with the angel and Peter, he was told he couldn't enter yet but felt infinite love, unconditional acceptance, and unreserved security. He was told to try giving unconditional love to fellow humans on earth. His guardian angel brought him back to his body without pain.
