In 1975 or 1976, young Sandra convinced her mentally-disabled cousin to go swimming despite not being allowed in the pool without an adult. While demonstrating swimming by pushing off the pool sides, she didn't push hard enough and got stuck face down in the middle of the pool. After struggling briefly and swallowing one gulp of water, she made a conscious decision not to drink more water and passed out. Instantly, she found herself standing poolside looking at her motionless body face down in the water. Her cousin stood behind watching. She was completely at peace with a better-than-bird's-eye view. Her attention was drawn to the sky where she knew there were many places to explore. Realizing she needed help, she floated through the yard searching for someone. She went into the cook's room and saw him asleep on his stomach. When she screamed for help, energy came out instead of words. The cook jumped up, ran to the door's threshold, fell with hands on his head, then looked toward the pool and ran to rescue her. The cook later confirmed he felt the room explode, saw clothes by the pool, and found her not moving.
