Maggie was five and a half months pregnant with severe toxemia causing dangerously high blood pressure (180/120) and kidney failure. She was immediately hospitalized and went into premature labor. Given morphine to stop the labor, she thought she was dying when a glowing golden nurse appeared, placed a hand on her forehead, and told her to rest. Her heart then stopped and she floated above her body, watching doctors rush in and pump her chest. She observed this for what seemed like hours until a brilliant tunnel opened in the ceiling corner. She floated through the warm, peaceful tunnel and emerged to see a brilliant city with lights everywhere and thousands of people waiting for her, feeling overwhelming love. A voice told her it wasn't her time and she had unfinished business. Despite arguing that she didn't want to return, she woke up days later in intensive care after an emergency cesarean. Her baby survived despite low Apgar scores, and she discovered her purpose was to help raise many children and comfort dying people by sharing her experience.
