Lyle was taking a shower when he became lightheaded and passed out, hitting his head. His wife found him unconscious on the shower floor and frantically tried to revive him, slapping his face. During this time, Lyle experienced floating in the corner of the bathroom ceiling, observing his wife trying to pull his body from the shower and hearing her desperate prayers even though her mouth wasn't moving. He felt peaceful and pain-free during the out-of-body experience, understanding he was probably dead. He could hear his wife's thoughts and prayers pleading for him not to die. The emotional impact of her sorrow affected him deeply, and with a whoosh sensation, he felt himself being shoved back into his body. Upon returning, his chest hurt and he began coughing up water. He immediately told his wife what had happened, including the exact words of her silent prayer, which convinced her of the reality of his experience.
