Stacy, a special education teacher and cantorial soloist, was on her solo summer sabbatical in Portland when she experienced a stroke while driving through Oregon wine country. The right side of her body failed - arm, leg, tongue, and face went weak and numb. She managed to reach a Kaiser Permanente Hospital emergency room where she announced her stroke. While in the ER cubicle, she felt a shift and called out Something is happening I am going south before popping out of her body and watching from the ceiling as a nurse quickly hurried out the door. She then found herself in what appeared to be outer space - vast, dark but not black, crackling with energy. God was by her right side, and waves of overwhelming, warm, unconditional love and acceptance enveloped her. She understood that every moment of life is governed by free will, and while outside her body, she had a choice: turn left to return to her body or right to join the delicious field of love energy. Over her right shoulder, she saw a shimmering starry path curving up into the distance, emanating pure welcoming love that made her audibly gasp in awe. The primary veridical observation was seeing from ceiling level as the nurse opened the door and exited her room when she called for help. With her gasp, air filled her lungs and brought her back to the hospital gurney. The experience gave her greater self-worth, understanding herself as an instrument for God, and transformed her approach to leading religious services.
