After laparoscopic surgery, Katie crashed in recovery with dropping blood pressure and internal bleeding into her abdominal cavity. Her husband saw her grayish corpse-like color as she experienced tunnel vision. At the OR threshold, despite blurry vision without contacts, she clearly saw a figure in white with neck-length hair and beard whom staff said was not the surgeon. During her experience, she felt timeless, pain-free, calm and at peace, surrounded by darkness but unafraid. She felt a presence ensuring she was not alone and pressed forward knowing she was leaving her husband and two young children. She knew she had to fight for them and awoke with a jolt on a ventilator in ICU, having received 5 units of blood during surgery and 2 more after. She had nearly bled to death. The experience eliminated her fear of death and she now knows the afterlife exists.
