Seventeen-year-old John was hit by a car while riding his bike to the library. In the seconds before impact, knowing death was imminent, he experienced unprecedented peace, contentment, fearlessness, and infinite happiness with overwhelming unconditional love. His brain operated on multiple levels simultaneously with countless thoughts about people in his life. After the impact, he suffered a subdural hematoma with loss of consciousness and grand mal seizure requiring emergency brain surgery. During unconsciousness, he vividly experienced a perfect terrarium-like realm with extraordinarily vivid green trees and grass, streams with perfect sounds, and beings both human and non-human coexisting peacefully. The temperature was always perfect, with people running barefoot and playing joyfully without need for shelter or concern for food. He interpreted this as a perfect Eden where all were content. In later dreams and fever states, he has seen his deceased mother in this realm. The experience profoundly impacted him, particularly as a gay youth in 1980s Indiana, providing him with lasting certainty about continuation after death. Recently, these visions have intensified, returning with rich detail and refusing to leave his mind.
