On May 22, 1983, James was in a head-on collision with both cars traveling approximately 45 mph. He went through the windshield, was propelled through the air, and landed unconscious on the ground. Glass embedded in his face and the windshield was completely missing from the impact. He suffered severe head trauma and concussion from the accident.
During his unconscious state, James experienced seeing the brightest white cloud imaginable. In the center of this brilliant cloud was the face of Jesus, who spoke to him saying, "It's not time yet." This divine encounter was brief but profoundly impactful. James woke up immediately after receiving this message to chaos and confusion with ambulances and police cars at the scene. His head hurt tremendously and he couldn't see straight due to the concussion. The experience remained vivid in his memory and was validated by learning that others had received similar "it's not your time yet" messages in their near-death experiences. Though raised Catholic and only attending church on Easter and Christmas at the time, this experience eventually led to significant spiritual transformation. Years later, he became a born-again believer, finding God in a more meaningful way.
