Raina underwent emergency surgery for endometriosis with infection and hemorrhage, receiving a hysterectomy. Following the operation, she fell into a coma and was placed in the recovery room under supervision of two nurses. She experienced moments of consciousness but couldn't talk or communicate. She heard noises in the nurses' room and smelled a strong smell of fresh paint. After the nurses opened her window, she felt intense cold and entered a great void. She suffered cardiac arrest around 5:00 AM.
During her out-of-body experience, Raina found herself floating above her body, describing the sensation as extremely pleasant with no pain. From her elevated position, she could see a group of people desperately performing resuscitation on her - two women and one or two men doing massage. She specifically observed the cardiac monitor device connected to her heart showing a flat red line and heard the alarm ringing. She experienced an intense sight of colors that were more radiating than normal, with sharper hearing and amplified sounds. She passed through what she uncertainly described as a tunnel and saw unusually bright daylight with intense sun. Raina observed the resuscitation team of two women and one or two men desperately performing cardiac massage on her body. She saw the specific detail of the cardiac monitor showing a flat red line with the alarm sounding. She noted the intense colors and daylight despite it being early morning. Upon returning to her body, she experienced painful reintegration of her physical form and its associated pain. The experience eliminated her fear of death and strengthened her belief in life after death. Two years later, she was able to endure the brutal death of her 29-year-old daughter and accompany friends toward death with love and tenderness.
