Philip received a flu shot at a doctor's office and subsequently passed out in the waiting room for several minutes. He felt a buzz in his head before losing consciousness and later woke up in a sweat on an examining table with two doctors standing over him with an IV, though he doesn't know how he got there or the exact duration of his unconsciousness.
During his out-of-body experience, Philip remembers passing through a window with abundant light and looking down on what was happening below. He followed what he described as a light beam path or possibly a tunnel of light that brought him both away from and back toward the table. From his elevated perspective, he observed himself on the table with an unusually focused view, noting that while he normally takes in all his surroundings, during the experience he was specifically focused on seeing his body on the table. The visual experience included unusually bright light and more vivid sensory perception than normal. Philip observed himself on the examining table from above during the medical emergency. He described the experience as having more focused consciousness due to the centralization of his view of himself on the table. He followed a tunnel of light that seemed to guide him both away from and back to his body. After returning to his body, Philip felt very weak and rested for a while before leaving under his own power and driving home. The experience left him without fear of death and with a sense that things may be revealed at the time of death, though his religious views remained unchanged.
