Miguel was being evaluated for a hernia when he had a heart attack in the hospital. He began reciting Psalm 23 as the crash-cart team arrived. He was sucked out of his body into a dark tube and found himself in a gray space with static-like small black points, experiencing great tranquility. He concluded he had died and waited in complete silence and unimaginable calm. After being pulled back through the tube, he opened his eyes to medical staff working on him. The doctor said the resuscitator showed no heartbeat and he seemed to be coming back to life. Miguel said "Help me doctor" before losing consciousness and waking three days later in the ICU. The experience left him with greater faith and significant life changes including stopping smoking and drinking.
