In 1986 in Canada, after 19 hours of non-stop work, Majid went to a bar with friends. While walking to their car around 3 AM in extremely cold winter weather (about -15°C), he suddenly stopped feeling the cold and instead felt a pleasant warm breeze on his face. The sky appeared brilliantly clear with stars looking very close. He experienced a strange feeling of being released from a tight, pressing casting of his body - a sensation more pleasant than anything he had ever felt before. Suddenly, he found himself floating in the air, looking down at his own body lying on the ground with his friends circled around him. One friend was supporting his head in his lap and shaking him to wake up. After observing this scene briefly, Majid suddenly returned to his body. His friends told him he had suddenly lost consciousness and collapsed. This experience permanently removed Majid's fear of death, and he never forgot the indescribable feeling of peace and freedom he experienced at what he perceived as the moment of death. The out-of-body observation of his unconscious form surrounded by concerned friends was the defining veridical element of his near-death experience.
