Seven-year-old Dana experienced a severe illness with measles in February 1957, reaching a critical state with a temperature of 104 degrees Fahrenheit. While her alcoholic father inadequately supervised her and her sister, Dana felt disconnected from her body and extremely ill. She then perceived a keyhole with light emanating through it, surrounded by darkness. Moving toward and through this keyhole portal, she found herself on a beautiful beach with gently lapping waves and blue water - remarkable since she lived in the desert and had never seen a beach. The environment featured muted sunshine and induced profound calm.
On this transcendent beach, Dana encountered two tall beings without distinguishable features who communicated telepathically. These beings expressed joy at seeing her and conveyed that this place would always be special to her. For the first time in her difficult childhood marked by narcissistic maternal abuse and punishment for illness, Dana felt genuine love and acceptance. The beings insisted she must return to her family temporarily but could come back "later" to stay as long as desired. Despite her desperate wish to remain, they lovingly convinced her to return. She then rushed back through the keyhole at great speed, awakening to her mother's anger at her father and emergency medical intervention including an ice bath. The primary observations included the detailed beach environment impossible for a desert child to imagine, the keyhole portal structure, and the specific appearance and telepathic communication of two beings. These perceptions occurred while critically ill with documented high fever. Her mother later confirmed the 104-degree temperature and emergency treatment, though she dismissed Dana's experience as lies and threatened institutionalization if she persisted in discussing it. This experience profoundly shaped Dana's entire life, providing an unshakeable certainty of a loving afterlife that sustained her through numerous tragedies including parental abuse, five miscarriages, her sister's murder, her father's suicide, and eventual caregiving for her estranged mother. The experience was validated decades later during a 2007 regression session where she returned to the same beach with multiple loving beings.
