Barbara experienced drowning at age 8 in 1967 when jumping off a dam into the Russian River. She made too short a jump and was caught in the cascading water, pinned to the river bottom by water pressure. Unable to break free, she held her breath until finally drawing water into her lungs. At that moment, she thought "Dying is so easy, only one breath-span between here and there." Her life flashed before her eyes in rapid sequence like flashcards, showing all moments including inconsequential ones.
She was pulled by filaments from the center of her chest forward through a tunnel toward a bright light at extreme speed. She then found herself standing barefoot on river sand at the edge of a great river about two miles wide. Behind her were stabilized dunes with willows and alders. She looked for a sun but found none despite daylight conditions. Across the river she saw an amazing world of mountains, trees, waterfalls, and exotic flowers - "our natural world but on steroids" with overwhelming life, colors, and textures in absolute perfection. She felt pulled back through the wormhole by filaments between her shoulder blades and was resuscitated by teenage boys who had pulled her out. In 1989, Barbara had a shared death experience with her grandmother. While lying with swollen eyes from a chemical reaction, images of her grandmother's life began flowing through her mind. At 11:26 am, she was pulled through the same wormhole to the exact same riverside location. She found her grandmother crumpled on the ground, terrified of the water. A young man appeared - her grandfather as a youth - who helped her grandmother cross. Barbara was pulled back and later learned her grandmother had died at exactly 11:26 am. Barbara became a botanist, wildlife biologist, and wetland ecologist, believing she'll be "a botanist/herbalist in heaven." She describes herself as an empath who can read emotional states and alleviate suffering in others.
