Kohn attempted suicide after his girlfriend died of an overdose, taking a bottle of over-the-counter drugs. Discovered by employers who called 911, he lost consciousness and was taken to the ICU. During treatment, he became extremely agitated requiring multiple staff to control him. Given medication to calm him, his heart stopped immediately for about 2 minutes. During this clinical death, he found himself in the same room but darker, with time stopped at 9:10pm. He observed a man pacing in the hallway who he felt strong resentment toward, feeling the sliding door represented a boundary. Pictures flashed before him showing himself as a happy person with incomplete tasks, and he felt the presence of a wise Holy Spirit he believed was God. He chose to return to life after seeing these visions of his future purpose. Upon waking the next morning, he felt transformed with no fear of death and a commitment to helping others. Medical records confirmed he had been on life support that night.
