Valéria was a passenger in a car driven by her boyfriend on a rainy night returning from the beach to São Paulo. The last thing she remembers is taking her bag to get a comb. She woke briefly hearing people outside shouting to remove her bag. Her feet were broken and trapped, with her boyfriend's body pressing down on her. She heard a voice saying "Oh, I'm dying" and felt total peace, wanting her family to know she was going in peace.
She experienced sliding into a radiant tunnel of white light, not exactly cylindrical but with a spotlight projection. She became pure consciousness, integrating with a greater awareness - a return to life in its pure state. She felt deep peace, beauty, and lightness, breathing the light itself. She experienced a fusion with the cosmos, understanding that with physical death we return to the light which is our origin. Images of her family members appeared during a life review. Initially thinking she had died when waking in the hospital, she saw her foot hanging and a doctor repositioning it, causing her to scream and pass out. She woke hours later with clear memories despite her injuries including pneumothorax. The experience profoundly changed her spiritual life. She became interested in various religious traditions, developed psychic abilities including ESP and mediumship, and now works in palliative care helping dying patients and their families, drawing on her lack of fear of death.
