Sharon was hospitalized on Christmas Eve 2008 with severe illness from a kidney stone causing septic shock. After surgery to insert a stent, she would not wake from anesthesia and was placed on life support with less than 50% chance of survival. During her coma, Sharon found herself out of body at her workplace, seeing everything through an orange color with expanded 360-degree vision. She was gliding, not walking, through the empty plant (closed for holidays). She traveled to her late husband's former warehouse, drawn to a door marked EXIT, feeling what she wanted was beyond it. As she reached for the door, she heard her daughter calling "MOM! MOM!" and was slammed back into her body. While comatose, she could hear and see her daughter arguing with her boyfriend about needing rest, which all three later confirmed occurred. Her daughter said she could tell when Sharon was present versus absent. Sharon spent two weeks mostly in coma, requiring two months of therapy before release. The experience left her knowing there is life after death and feeling her deceased husband was waiting beyond the door.
