George M, a 17-year-old traveling with friends in France in 1971, experienced a near-death event after taking old, incorrect medication for illness during their cramped journey to Spain. The pills caused severe poisoning, leading to vomiting, disorientation, and collapse in a grain field where he lost consciousness. His friends found him unconscious and carried him against his expressed wishes to the nearest hospital for emergency treatment.
Upon losing consciousness, George immediately left his body and experienced a profound heavenly calm with complete cessation of pain. He witnessed an extraordinarily detailed and rapid life review where every person he had ever met appeared and waved kindly to him. From approximately 10 meters above, he observed his body lying in the cornfield with his friends standing around helplessly making sorrowful comments. He simultaneously perceived a mystical white light, distinct from and far more significant than the sun, appearing as a massive disk drawing him closer with magnetic force. This light represented eternal calm and heavenly peace, and he felt ready to merge with it completely. The most remarkable aspect was his elevated perspective observing the scene below while experiencing unlimited understanding and cosmic awareness. He heard himself telling his friends to leave him and continue their journey, expressing complete acceptance of death. He witnessed his friends carrying his unconscious body to the hospital against his will, observing the medical intervention and hearing other patients in what may have been a chest clinic. George's experience profoundly transformed his worldview, leading him to leave the Catholic Church and embrace cosmic, universal thinking and eventually Buddhism. The clarity of consciousness during clinical unconsciousness, combined with the life review and encounter with transcendent light, fundamentally altered his understanding of death and existence. Even 45 years later, he retains crystal-clear memory of the experience.
