Donna C, a young woman, experienced a near-death event in 1997 after feeling unwell in a hot bathroom following the application of a homemade face mask. The medical crisis began when she felt dizzy and faint while showering, prompting her to wrap herself in a towel and call for help before collapsing outside the bathroom.
During her unconscious state, Donna experienced a profound out-of-body experience where she observed herself floating approximately four meters above her body. She witnessed her mother discovering her collapsed form and desperately trying to revive her with multiple slaps that produced no response. She saw herself floating through a white tunnel of light, dressed in white clothing and barefoot, experiencing tremendous peace and love that she had never felt before. From her elevated perspective, she could hear her mother's distressed crying from a distance, which created a pull that drew her back to her body. The most remarkable veridical aspect of her experience was her ability to observe the scene from above, witnessing her mother's unsuccessful attempts to wake her and her emotional distress. She saw her own pale, unresponsive body and observed the exact sequence of events, including her mother administering multiple slaps to try to revive her. When she heard her mother crying, the emotional connection created a powerful force that pulled her back into her physical form. Upon returning to consciousness, Donna found herself in bed with her mother crying beside her. Her mother confirmed she had been unresponsive for an unknown period and couldn't be awakened despite forceful attempts. This experience profoundly changed Donna's perspective on death, eliminating her fear and giving her certainty about the continuation of consciousness after death.
