Rick suffered a severe motorcycle accident in April 1982. In the emergency room, he was in shock and intense pain, begging for pain medication which was denied until "real doctors" arrived. When they came, he passed out from the pain. Believing his time had come after many previous injuries, Rick accepted he was dying and didn't resist, wanting to go wherever the Lord felt he should be.
Upon accepting death, Rick left his body and viewed the scene from above, seeing his father, brother, doctor, and sister-in-law below. He couldn't see behind him - it was black like having blinders on. He felt presences of people who had come to greet him, some familiar though uncertain who they were. He felt overwhelming love and complete acceptance, understanding, and the feeling of finally being "HOME." Rick sensed his grandmother's presence reaching out to touch him and felt another presence of overwhelming love he identified as Jesus. He experienced love beyond expression and believed he encountered God himself. His grandmother told him "Ricky, you have things to do still," and he returned to his body feeling no pain initially. During surgery, Rick's heart stopped for about 30 seconds before being revived. He spent 10 days in recovery with jaws wired shut for 6 weeks. The experience eliminated his fear of death, strengthened his belief in God and afterlife, and led him to keep family very close. He gained enhanced intuition and feels things before they happen.
