Rafa was skiing and racing downhill in 1982, sizing up a course without wearing a helmet. The course went through a forest and out onto a jump. When he took the jump, he collided head-to-head with someone standing in the middle of the gate. Both lost consciousness from the impact. Rafa broke his teeth and was unconscious for 20 minutes.
He immediately left his physical body and saw himself lying in the white snow, surrounded by the contrasting red color of blood. He went into a tunnel and experienced a once-in-a-lifetime feeling of peace with the world, feeling no pain. He saw the brightest light and faced a big choice about whether to let go. He was fully aware and lucid throughout the experience, with heightened vividness and consciousness. Rafa made the conscious decision to return to his body. Upon returning, he felt intense pain from the broken teeth and headache. He woke up in a helicopter being transported to the hospital. The experience clearly changed his life with full certainty of having gone through the afterlife passage and returning. He has never felt similar peacefulness since that time. He went on to build a wonderful family with a loving wife, four children, and a grandson. He waited 33 years to share his story, inspired by reading Anita Moorjani's account.
