At age 3, Christophe was playing on the sidewalk when he was hit by a car while crossing the street. He lost consciousness and experienced what appeared to be clinical death with CPR administered by ambulance staff. During this time, he had an out-of-body experience where he floated above his body, stuck to the ceiling like being in water without weight. He observed the medical team working on him, saw his parents crying, and heard conversations. A mysterious voice spoke to him, telling him to return to his parents who would be happy. He experienced heightened awareness and could pay attention to multiple conversations simultaneously. He awoke in the hospital with no memory of how much time had passed. The experience left him with lasting changes in values, increased compassion, and an understanding that life and death are merely stages.
