Paul was hit by a truck on New Year's Eve 1984 while walking after a restaurant argument with his fiancée. He landed 60 feet from impact. He experienced leaving his body shell and dropping through seven planes, each providing different information about life, Earth, space and larger realities. He reached a revolving window where he observed masses of souls moving toward something very big. A male with goatee welcomed him and a woman with dark hair was focused ahead. He was told at the revolving window that he had reached the point of no return. The decision was made for him to return, feeling like swimming upstream through the planes. Upon return he wrote extensively about the experience to prevent forgetting it. Later painted the scene which resembled the Universal Pictures globe. The experience gave him complete understanding during the journey through absolute knowledge that was partially retained.
