Fourteen-year-old Brigitte was upset when her brother broke a promise to take her shopping on her birthday to meet a girl instead. In retaliation, she hid his shampoo while he washed his hair. When she refused to return it and turned to run, he instinctively grabbed her neck, pressing on her carotid artery. She felt no pain initially as her brain lost oxygen and her heart stopped from the combination of carotid pressure and cardiac malfunction.
She was seized by an indescribable force and pushed into a tunnel of stars moving at light speed. Suddenly everything stood still in absolute, dense darkness where she could see 360 degrees simultaneously. The darkness transformed into warm, comforting gray. Looking down, she saw her body appeared different - a candid sphere of white light emanating rays from chest height. Questions about God, creation, and existence flooded her mind and were simultaneously answered, filling her virgin mind with amazing knowledge. She experienced the highest potency of all positive emotions and incredible freedom without her body's burden. The energy and oneness she felt were beyond earthly experience. Time seemed to have no meaning in this state of expanded consciousness where she gained understanding of humanity's deepest questions. When it ended, she awoke to unbearable pain like needles piercing every inch of her body. She saw paramedics trying to revive her, heard them asking if she could hear them, but couldn't initially respond. She later woke in the hospital with bruises from unsuccessful resuscitation attempts. The experience left her changed, seeking solitude and meditation, though initially resentful before eventually remembering it with pleasure.
