Mustafa Y experienced a severe impact to his right ribs from behind in 1999 or 2000. He felt intense pain for only about one second before entering a nearly dark tunnel, traveling upward at great speed before coming to a sudden stop. He found himself in a dark place where a middle-aged man in white clothing stood at a distance, emanating light that was the only brightness in the dark space. The man approached him carrying what appeared to be a letter from which he was reading. After finishing the letter, the man returned it to Mustafa, who then found himself back in the tunnel. He then observed his body lying on the ground with people around it, viewing the scene from the ceiling perspective. He could see the people from behind. After a few moments, he re-entered his body and opened his eyes, now able to see the faces of the same people he had previously viewed from behind. This shift in perspective from ceiling to floor frightened him. When he got up and went outside, his pain was completely gone. The experience transformed his religious practices, making him more committed to not hurting others, loving everyone, and participating in religious and charitable events. He noted that contrary to Islamic teachings about a horrifying angel of death extracting the soul painfully, his experience was peaceful.
