On March 31, 1969, Bonita died in recovery following a successful C-section delivery of a 9-pound baby boy. After being told of her son's birth, she suddenly found herself hovering above her body in three dimensions, initially concerned about her weight and blood on her new blouse. She felt perfect warmth and temperature, then traveled feet-first through a tunnel with other silent travelers. She emerged in a beautiful forest where a woman enthusiastically greeted her. When she asked to see Jesus, two passing women commented that's what everyone asks first. She found a hooded figure sitting on a rock whom she instantly knew was Jesus without seeing his face. When asked if she wanted to stay, she declined, explaining she had to care for her baby. Jesus allowed her return and she was shot back through the tunnel at lightning speed, likely from defibrillation. Years later in 1985, the woman from her NDE appeared in a dream, revealing herself as an angel and showing Bonita horrific scenes of children suffering worldwide, telling her "Now you know what you have to do." This led to Bonita's lifelong dedication to helping children. She earned a PhD in Development Studies, lived overseas 23 years, and developed heightened perception of human suffering. Her experience in Africa included a remarkable encounter with a man in white from Nigeria who knew intimate details of her life and claimed to be sent by God during a time of hardship.
